Jorvik Viking Festival
/February across York
Are you looking for an opportunity to storm through the centre of York dressed in matching clothing while marauding, raiding and shouting and singing? If so have 2 choices
Join a stag night (please don’t the locals really don’t like them)
Join the Jorvik Viking Festival (please do, the locals and tourists really like that and will pay to watch).
The annual Jorvik Viking Festival is a city-wide celebration of York’s rich Norse heritage run by York Archaeological Trust.
There is a programme of over 80 events across York, including living history encampments, markets, workshops, talks, tours and dramatic combat performances.
Our favourite events at the festival are the Best Dressed Competition (especially the Best Beard) and the Family Crafting and Poo Day.
My Favourite ways of reenacting being a viking
Covering myself in bacon and shouting look at my Dainpak to passers by
Making my dog Mable wear a Viking helmet (no horns for authenticity) and telling anyone that tries to pet her thats she’s a vicious hound from hell sent to pillage all that do not give her treats
