The Star Inn the City and where to find the York Discount Vouchers to eat for less
/Lendal Engine House, York YO1 7DR
If I had to eat the same food every day for the rest of my life it would be my mums roast dinner. It was the only food she cooked where her utter hatred for cooking did not make its way onto the the recipe instructions - even today I have PTSD from her meatloaf with cabbage.
Before you judge me on that last paragraph you should know she also made me drink the cabbage water after because she read a Woman’s Own article that said it would cure my achy - it didn't and the recipe specified cold cabbage juice.
Back to roast dinners, my York pick is The Star Inn the City. Its won loads of awards, does a cracking roast and has a lovely riverside setting in the Lendal Engine House which is Victorian industrial architecture at its best.
All their food is great but Sunday lunch is nearly as good as my mums and the service is also fab - with friendly staff that have always given me great recommendations and never made me drink cold cabbage water.
The huge terrace overlooking the river is also a good shout for a few drinks on a sunny day and they are pet friendly if you want to bring a well behaved fido.
What we love to eat there
Its the Sunday lunch. I love the lamb but the pork and beef are also good and they all come with a huge Yorkshire pudding and fab veg.
